whatever the case, I'm not feeling 100%.
Nevertheless, things continue to get done, some mundane and some extraordinary!
On the mundane side, Melons as bowls and breakfast. wow.
Transplanted raspberries vigorous and lush, now with one side of trellis and white clover planted between the rows.
Sunshine.
The new plot got its buckwheat and lime tilled under, and is now planted in a new green manure. Thanks to an East Andover neighbor for lending me the tiller!
Both upper and lower fields got mowed the other week. I left long strips reaching into the center of the fields as well as a tranisitional zone alongside the woods unmowed so as to keep habitat for insects and butterflies.
Now onto the exciting stuff. The floor on the manure spreader has been fully replaced thanks to some finessing on Patrick's part. With a metal strip making the transition from frame to wood, it's ready to be tested.
After loading some lovely alpaca and sheep manure mix into the wagon's bed...
We got to see this sweet piece of machinery in action! Anyone walking by at the time of this event must have thought us to be loony-- hooting and whooping over flying poop! But really, this is a great piece of recovered (thanks neighbor Ken!) farm machinery, with a fantastic marriage of various sized gears and spinning parts and their corresponding levers. Bars along the bed of the wagon are pulled backward inch by inch, thereby moving the whole load of manure towards the waiting choppers/spinners/senders!
We even christened the spreader into work on the farm by naming it "Chewy".
What a beautiful sight....
