Wednesday Roundup

I visited with my bees yesterday. And found the queenie! They seem to be doing well; still building out comb in their brood boxes, bringing in tons of pollen of varying shades, and also stashing away nectar which becomes honey. That white section on the frame in the picture above is capped honey on a brood frame (where they make more bees). The brood gets laid, capped with brown propylis (sp?), and tended to in the center of the frame, and honey-food gets stored around them. Folks say the brood ends up looking like a football surrounded by honey. Nice. Below are a few other views of da bees. Thank goodness, da bears seem to be leaving them alone.

Today in one week is my first CSA pickup and roadside stand. The garden is starting to pump out produce just in time: Lettuce, salad mix, arugula, spinach, radishes, rhubarb, sugar snap peas, and early cut flowers will surely be making their debut, with chard, cucumbers and hoophouse tomatoes not far behind.
